The Leland-based bakery has been named "Best Bakery – Statewide" by Detroit 's Metro Times newspaper. The bakery was selected by Metro Times staff in the "Conspicuous Consumption" category, featured in the October 15, 2008 issue.

Stone House was also selected for the honor last year.

Stone House also announced it now has expanded distribution throughout greater Grand Rapids . Its artisan breads are now available at area Meijer and D&W stores, as well as at Forest Hills Foods.

Metro Times is widely considered metropolitan Detroit 's leading entertainment weekly.

The article describes Stone House Bread's beginnings, having been the brainchild of former Detroiter Bob Pisor, who moved north from the "big city" to start the bread business in 1995. Today, Stone House has expanded to deliver fresh bread to almost 100 retail and restaurant locations throughout Michigan. The company has also expanded to include a production facility in Traverse City, and a café in downtown Leland.

Metro Times went on to say, "Yeah, 250 miles is a long way to go for your daily bread, but Stone House does ship loaves all over the country."

It's not the first time Stone House has received kudos from outside the region. The company's goods have been featured on the pages of Men's Health and The New York Times.
